MEET OUR OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Asma Gangat is dedicated to providing high quality comprehensive eye care services at iCare Optometry, in Scarborough. During her 23+ years practicing Optometry, her compassionate and friendly demeanour has earned her the trust and confidence of patients across various cities in Ontario and now Scarborough.
Born and raised in beautiful Cambridge ON, Dr. Gangat’s interest in Optometry began with a grade 10 physics project on cataracts and the eye, which opened the door to her lifelong love of eye care. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo with Honours in 2002.
During her studies, Dr. Gangat completed an externship in ocular disease and therapeutics at Vision America in Birmingham, Alabama, where she worked closely with numerous ophthalmologists and optometrists. This gave her hands on experience in various specialties including cornea, retina, glaucoma, cataracts, refractive and eyelid surgery. Early in her career she has been a part-time clinical supervisor at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, as well as an interviewer for candidates seeking entrance into the program.
Currently, she is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and Eye Recommend.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Gangat enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking different cuisines and is actively involved in various community outreach programs. Her compassionate approach and dedication to excellence have earned her a reputation as a trusted eye care professional in the community.
